Courtyard
The sundial that runs six minutes late
Every guest asks. Our gardener has a theory involving the church, the tram and the ancient art of not caring.
The dial in our courtyard was cut in 1926 for a slightly different latitude, which is why it has been politely wrong ever since. We stopped correcting it years ago. At what the stone calls noon, the kitchen goes quiet for exactly one minute, and someone always says the same thing: it is late somewhere.
