Stoker’s rule

Coal raises pressure; open valves bleed it. Above 200 psi she vents herself — loudly, and the log remembers.

Oiler’s rule

Oil thins the gears. Fast gears drink steam. Watch the needle hunt when both run hot.

Whistle code

One blast: shift change. Two: visitors. Three, and the captain wants the engine — now.

Engine notes — keeping pressure

Coal feeds heat, valves bleed it. Oil speeds gears that drink steam.

STOKER

Coal minus thirty-eight drifts heat. Pressure follows at 3.2 per tick.

OILER

Oil rescales all three gear durations. Fast gears sip steam steadily.

WHISTLE

Sawtooth at slider pitch. Auto-vents at 200 psi whether you like it or not.

Keys A and B work the valves, W sounds the whistle. Clicking the room puffs.

Overpressure drill

Above 200 the vessel vents to 170 and logs it. Open a valve before she decides.

Coal colophon — 039

Stoked, vented and whistled in one file. Last orders from the engine room.

FIRE

Coal drifts heat from a 38 baseline. The lamp flickers at two.

BRASS

Three gears counter-turn. Oil rescales every duration.

STEAM

Six puffs rise on loop. Valves bleed, whistle screams.

A and B work valves, W whistles. Overpressure vents at 200.

Whistle code

One shift, two visitors, three the captain. Sawtooth, 220 to 880.

Offline engine

Double-click to open. Gauges tick every 400 milliseconds.
