Issue 091 — A broadside on motion
Every line below is cast in heavy metal and hung on a spring. Scroll slowly and the stack stands upright like a printer's forme. Fling the page and the letters shear, stretch, and settle again, carrying the memory of your hand.
Scroll fast. Then stop.
Lead type never moved on its own. It waited in its case until a compositor set it in a stick, locked it in a chase, and pressed it into paper. We wanted to give those letters a little of the weather they never felt.
So each row listens to the pace of your scrolling, not its position. Velocity becomes shear. Sudden stops become a short, damped wobble, the way a hanging sign rocks after a gust.
Odd rows lean one way, even rows the other, at slightly different strengths. The result reads like a column of pages riffled under a thumb: never chaotic, always returning home.
Hover or tab onto any line to pull it out of the stack, inked in reverse, with a marginal note set in italic.
