The source is drawn procedurally, split into cyan, magenta, yellow and black (or a preset's channels), and each channel is re-screened as a grid of dots rotated to its own angle: 15°, 75°, 0° and 45°. Dot radius grows with the channel's ink density, so tone becomes size.
Flat colour areas fill with evenly spaced Ben-Day dots, just like a 1960s comic. A Sobel edge detector traces the source's contours and lays down heavy black comic outlines on top of the screens.
