Dense and warm. It sits on the paper rather than in it, so it can be lifted back to a ghost with a damp brush.
MIX · tube 1 · used neat
The settler. In rough paper it breaks into a violet stipple wherever the surface dips — let it, do not stir.
MIX · tube 2 · used neat
Ground stone in water. It settles fast and dries a shade duller, so mix it a step brighter than the target.
MIX · tube 3 · used neat
Once it touches the paper it stays. Glaze it over ochre for moss; over cadmium it turns to slate.
MIX · tube 4 · used neat
One part ultramarine to three parts water, laid wet-in-wet and tipped. The horizon does the rest.
MIX · tube 2 + water · 1 : 3
Cadmium warmed with ochre until it reads as clay. The workhorse for roofs, skin and dry ground.
