We make buildings that weigh something: walls that store heat, cast shadow and outlast the people who poured them.

Monolith
Mass is a material.Shadow is a material.Time is a material.
MONOLITH designs in concrete, stone and earth for places with weather: northern coasts, high deserts and wet valleys. We use heavy walls to slow heat down, deep openings to control light, and landscape that is given room to take over. Every drawing here responds to the sun. Move it and watch the shadows swing.

How a monolith
is made
- Raft 01
An 800 mm raft spreads the load across wet glacial clay.
- Walls 02
Twin 1.2 m walls, cast in 450 mm lifts over nine days.
- Floors 03
Two post-tensioned plates span the archive without a single column.
- Screen 04
The south screen is cut with slits that admit daylight but never direct sun onto paper.
- Roof 05
A 900 mm roof slab, heavy enough to steady the room’s temperature from season to season.
- Lantern 06
A copper lantern: the only colour on site, and it will turn green as it weathers.
